Plans for a sweeping facelift of Quicken Loans Arena appear to be dead. Cleveland Cavaliers officials backed out of the 140-million-dollar project yesterday, citing the referendum that was expected to be on the November ballot.

A group of Cleveland clergy successfully fought the deal that would have been funded only by bed and admission tax revenues.

Supporters of the deal say the Cavaliers could leave Cleveland without an improved arena.
